About Me

  • About Me: I am a SAHM of three, an 9 yo boy (J), a 5 yo girl (A), and another little girl about 2 (K). I homeschool my son, who is in fourth grade, using mostly Sonlight curriculum. My oldest daughter is also being homeschooled for Kindergarten. K is growing and learning new things. I'm a Christian, and I'm sure that will come through as I express my thoughts here. One of the things I like to write about here is what I have learned in trying to make a difficult marriage work.

    Hi there, RYC, yes, I do enjoy the planning...but it is so time-consuming, and I may not always be able to do it on my own. :) I try to remain flexible and am open to what works best from year to year, and as my other children grow into school as well. It is daunting!! I am excited for new materi

    RYC; sure I'll add ya...no one is actually on my list yet...that was my "first" protected...my Mom reads my stuff sometimes and others in my life, which is fine, but sometimes I need to be even MORE real. :) I'll go put ya on the list! ~Tea

    Thanks for sharing more thoughts; oh, how my heart goes out to your sister. Before we had kids, my brother's children (5, practically all "unplanned") were the closest thing I had to "my own" kids and I loved them extra!!! But it was painful too, every time I "heard the news" and held someone else

    I think what you're doing, your own thing with the rabbit trails, etc., is great. I wish I could do that, but I'm too much of a perfectionist, wondering if I'm using the best book to teach it, etc. I need someone telling me what to do so I don't stress about it like that. I think it is neat, thou

    I felt like I needed more, too, which is why I moved on, but I'm using the Before FIAR with A some, now, because she wants some "school" of her own, and I'm planning on moving directly into FIAR next year. The hard part is that she listens in to the chapter books I read to J and enjoys them! I'll

    That is cool, about you using FIAR too. :) My daughter will be in 2nd next year, and we'll use it some, but I am beginning to do a lot of our "own" thing, and follow rabbit trails she is interested in, etc. I love it, still, for some substance...but the older she gets, I need "more" as well.     Hey, me again!! You asked what I like about Ray's? Well I haven't tried it yet; I will be ordering it this Spring...but it begins with the "manipulative" phase so children can "see" what they're learning...then the concrete phase, then moves into abstract. MUS is heavy manipulatives too I think;

    Hi! So what curriculum have you been using? I've heard of a couple or so which incorporate a CM approach, and include optional additional books. I've looked at one or two...but, I only have one child actually "in school" and so for now, a relaxed approach has worked the best for us. My kids are sp

    Hi there! RYC, I didn't realize that book was out of print...I obtained it from our library (yeah!). I have read books by the Moores also, and really gleaned much from them. I am so grateful for all the insight and wisdom I have today, thanks to the many who have homeschooled before me. Because
